The cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. But again, the cynics are wrong. We care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth.

Last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.

As college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. We all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. I believe in all my fellow classmates. Though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish.

I believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. We are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. I believe in our future.

20xx年前，我在《環球》雜志上讀過一個很感人的真實故事。故事的主人公是個年輕貌美的女子，一天，跟隨丈夫在山頂拍照，突然丈夫一腳踩空，隨即向萬丈深淵滑去，周圍是陡峭的山崖，兩手無任何抓處。就在這十分危急的一瞬間，妻子兩手抱住崖邊的樹干，用嘴咬住了丈夫的上衣。這時丈夫懸在空中，妻子又不能松手，只好用兩排潔白細碎的牙齒承受著一個高大的身軀。妻子不停地對自己說：“咬緊牙關，堅持，再堅持！”她美麗的牙齒和嘴唇被血染得鮮紅鮮紅。半個小時后，被游客發現，才把他倆救上來。這位妻子身單力薄，為什么會在緊要關頭，爆發出這么大的承受力和忍耐力？一位生理學家認為：“身體機能對緊急狀況產生反應時，腎上腺能大量分泌出激素，傳到整個身體，能產生額外的力量?！比绻麖男睦矸矫娣治?，這種生理現象，產生于人的心智和精神的力量。這位妻子能咬緊牙關，一再堅持，是因為她心里只有一個念頭：千萬千萬不能松口，否則丈夫就會跌進萬丈深淵。人有了心智和精神力量的支配，就連死神也怕咬緊牙關！

要問成功有什么秘訣，丘吉爾在劍橋大學講演時回答得很好：“我的成功秘訣有三個：第一是，決不放棄；第二是，決不，決不放棄；第三是，決不，決不，決不放棄?！?/p>

決不放棄，就是堅持，它來自于人的毅力。毅力是人類最可貴的財富，在走向成功的路上，沒有任何東西能代替毅力。熱情不能，有一時熱情的人往往在最后一步退縮，這已屢見不鮮；聰明也代替不了毅力，因為世上失敗的.聰明人太多了。

人有了毅力，就容易成功，沒有毅力，就容易前功盡棄。想想我們做過的事，你就會發現，無論做什么事，都要經歷一個過程，越是重大的事，經歷的過程就越長。從事情的開始，到事情的終了，然后又是一個開始，又是一個終了。

在這一個個過程中，會有開始時的期望和喜悅，接著會有很多困難和挫折，然后更多的時候可能是你一再努力，但卻無法看到成功的曙光。

這時候正是“勝利女神”考驗你的時候，就看你有沒有毅力。被拒絕了1000次之后，還敢去敲1001次門的席維斯·史泰龍就是靠毅力走向成功的。他在未成名之時，身上只有100美元和一部根據自己悲慘童年生活寫成的劇本《洛奇》。于是他挨家挨戶地拜訪了好萊塢的所有電影制片公司，尋求演出的機會。

當時好萊塢總共有五百家制片公司，史泰龍逐一拜訪過后，沒有任何一家公司愿意錄用他。史泰龍面對五百次冷酷的拒絕，他毫不灰心，回過頭來，又從第一家開始，挨家挨戶地自我推薦。第二輪拜訪，好萊塢的五百家公司，仍然沒有一家肯錄用他。
